Yorkshire Dales Photography Holiday

Notice*

I’m currently revamping my business, having shifted to part-time photography. For the time being I’ll be focusing on providing "One to One" sessions, commercial commisions and publishing more photography books and photo 'zines'. As such, no further group courses or holidays are scheduled at this time. Thanks, Rod.

The Location

On our Yorkshire Dales photography holiday, you'll see how they are underpinned by spectacular limestone geology, forging the landscape into a visual feast with its own unique character. Photographers can enjoy spectacular waterfalls, gorges, limestone pavements, an array of dales (valleys), beautiful stone buildings, flower meadows and windswept moorland.

Details

Contrary to conventional wisdom, summer is the perfect time for photographers to enjoy the Yorkshire Dales. Valleys and field Barns (called 'Cow Houses' by locals) are best seen during the month of June when accompanied by wild flowers reaching their peak in the meadows and verges, just before farmers start making hay. We'll take the strain out of your trip, getting you to the right places at the right time. All you have to do is focus on creating great images in stunning surroundings!

Whilst our own home is in the Lake District National Park, we're just 7 miles from the northern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National park meaning we've developed an excellent knowledge of the area and its conditions from numerous visits and running various photography trips here.

Max group size

5 Photographers (5 rooms are available for clients - up to 3 of these can be used for couples sharing so non-photography partners are welcome to stay at the hotel).

Includes:
Three nights' accommodation in high quality self-catering accommodation

Accommodation

We're offering this as a self-catering break, which helps keep costs to a minimum for you and offers us greater flexibility when it comes to timing our forays with the best photographic conditions. Included in the price is all the breakfast food (cooked & continental) and a broad selection of ingredients for you to make up packed lunches to your liking. (We'll ask when you book if you've any special dietary needs that you'd like us to cater for).

This provides flexibility within the programme and good value for money, as reflected in the lower price of this holiday compared to our half-board trips.

Food
A broad range of Breakfast ingredients are provided for guests each morning along with everything you need to make up a packed lunch to your liking.

There are some great pub venues nearby for evening meals (not included in the price) which we can go to every night, or the group might choose to eat in one evening. We'll decide as a group what you'd like to do at the time.

Exertion level
The area offers some locations that are readily viewed direct from the roadside as well as many others that involve short walks. Some locations might require a longer walk-in and the terrain may be rough and muddy, meaning a reasonable level of physical fitness is required to access them. We'll manage this accordingly within the groups abilities.

Schedule
To give you an idea of what you'll be doing on the tour, we've set out an example schedule. During early June in the Yorkshire Dales sunrise is around 04:40 and sunset 21:39. There are many nearby locations we can choose from to visit, such as Ribblehead Viaduct, Ingleton Waterfalls, limestone pavements beneath Ingleborough, Gordale scar, Swaledale, Malhamdale etc. Times and locations are arranged around prevailing weather to make the most of the conditions and light, so we'll always remain flexible around the exact details.

Day 1 - Meet up at Accommodation then out On location
Meet at accommodation at 12pm (or we can collect you from Settle Train station). We'll drop our bags and head straight out to explore nearby locations. We'll then 'properly' check in later in the afternoon before letting you get settled. Then, there's an introductory talk to give you an outline of the programme and introduce you to the area before our evening meal together.

Day 2 – On location
If the conditions are favourable we could head out to catch an early sunrise before returning for a welcome breakfast and a quick snooze if required before heading back out and visiting up to three more locations. During the evening, there'll be the opportunity to review our days work, seeing what we've managed to capture. Again, we'll have our evening meal together as a group.

Day 3 – On location
We'll enjoy breakfast before heading out for our location visits. Sunset offers a different take on some of the locations and we'll try and work that into the schedule. During the evening, as well as image review, I'll spend some time showing you my processing/editing workflow before enjoying our evening meal.

Day 4 – On location and tour end
On our last day, we'll head out early again to make the most of our time, then back to the accommodation for breakfast and then checkout. For one last hurrah, there'll be the chance to enjoy another couple of hours photography nearby, before we conclude the course and head home.

Not included
* Transport to workshop start/end
* Travel insurance
* Bar drinks
* Evening meals - This helps to increase flexibility around shooting during the summer months, as well as keeping the price down for you

How to book
Due to ongoing uncertainty in respect of broader economic challenges and securing holiday accommodation at a fixed price for trips a considerable time out, we aren't currently scheduling dates for this trip. If it is something you are interested in doing, contact us if we get a sufficient number of guests interested, we can look to get a date arranged accordingly. Apologies for the inconvenience.
